Home | LARFHC Information | Southern California Resources | Genealogy on the Internet | Beginners | LDS Links | Site Map

The LARFHC has about 50 PC computers with Windows XP where you may use your Flash Drive. Most of them have USB ports in the front of the computers and some computer workstations have USB extension cables from the back of the workstation that you may use.

There is posted "Warning" and instructions signage at most computer workstations.

Connect your Flash Drive.

There might be a "Found New Hardware" notice on the screen.

Open "My Computer" and look for the "Removable Disk". There might be one or more false "Removable Disk" items. The correct one might be "Removable Disk (W:) or (E:) or (F:) or (T:)"

A false "Removable Disk" will give a statement, "Please insert a disk in drive ?:."

Do your work.

Close all files and programs for the "Removable Disk".

WARNING:
To avoid permanent damage to your Flash Drive and loss of data, do the following on your computer: Before removing your Flash Drive from the computer, you must close all Flash Drive files and programs and left click once on the "Green Arrow" icon located in the "System Tray" of your computer.

Left click once on image
Stop USB Mass Storage Device - Drive (_:)

Left click once on "OK" on image

The light on the Flash Drive must be off before you remove it. If the light does not go out, shut down the computer at "Start". Remove your Flash Drive.

The Flash Drive works with Windows 98/ME/2000/XP, Mac OS 8.6 or later, Linux kernel version 2.4.0 or later and in a Tower, Desktop or notebook computer with a USB 1.1 or 2.0 Port, BUT not Windows NT. If you have Windows 98/ME, you will have to go to the Flash Drive's Website and find the driver to download and install on your computer.
