10741 Santa Monica Blvd., Los Angeles, California 90025Course Description The three-day intensive course offered by the Los Angeles Family History Training Center at the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center (LARFHC) starts with the basics and progresses to the advanced concepts of Family History/Genealogy Research. The classes will run Wednesday thru Friday. This training is designed especially for Family History Consultants, volunteers who work at family history centers, members of the church and nonmembers who wish to improve their family history/genealogical research skills. Three preliminary classes will be offered on the preceding Tuesday for those who feel that their computer skills are not sufficient or wish to improve them.

Preliminary Computer Classes
Tue 1 PM Introduction to Computers and File Management 2 PM USB/flash drives and Windows operations 3 PM Introduction to the Internet The classes will be from 8 AM to 5 PM each of the three days. Each class will usually last two hours. Each will involve classroom instruction in our computer laboratory followed by an assignment to be completed on the computers, in the microfilm room, or using the books at the LARFHC.

Wed 8 AM Beginning Research/Organizing Family History/Genealogical Data Files 10 AM Research Guidance (On FamilySearch.org) 1 PM Introduction to PAF 3 PM Family History Library Catalog on www.familysearch.org Thu 8 AM Overview of Ancestry.com 10 AM Wills and Probates 1 PM Advanced PAF 1 - includes notes, sources and attaching images 3 PM PAF Sharing: GEDCOM files and merging Fri 8 AM US Census Records - Soundex, Book and Computer Indexes and Computer Searches 10 AM Death Records: Cemetery, Obituary, Death Cert., etc 1 PM Church Records: Non-LDS 3 PM Searching by Surname and Locality Those finishing this course will be awarded a certificate of completion. Additional growth in your understanding of family history can be obtained by answering the questions in the Bronze and Silver Certification Booklets. These are especially good for family history consultants and those who work at family history centers. These certification booklets also help you learn how to better use the resources at this regional family history center. These certification booklets were developed at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City for training their missionaries. They have been slightly modified for use at the Los Angeles Regional Family History Center. All of the missionaries at the LARFHC are strongly encouraged to finish these booklets. Those who finish the Bronze (Silver) Certification Booklet will receive a Bronze (Silver) Certificate of Completion.

You will receive an email within 2 weekdays confirming your registration. If you don't receive the email, stop into the LARFHC or email at lafamhist@larfhc.org Your pre-registration will be finalized by paying the $20 fee by check after receiving the confirming email.
